Currie Barracks is the third redevelopment site of the Calgary Forces Base — the CFB — and takes its vision from model neighbourhoods such as Garrison Woods. The community is flush against Crowchild Trail SW along its eastern border, across from Garrison Woods, Altadore, and north of Lincoln Park. Currie Barracks is just a short drive away from downtown Calgary and several prominent city parks. Residents hardly need to go far to enjoy local amenities.
The area, which now contains a thriving residential population, was once the home of a CFB facility dating back to 1911 when it was the training grounds for soldiers entering the first World War. The base that was subsequently built following the war and until 1994, was the largest concentration of military members in Alberta. After a long history of serving the military, the land was eventually purchased by the Canada Land Company to be developed into a master-planned community.
Due to its relative newness, the housing in Currie Barracks is composed of new builds that are meant to accommodate every stage of life. Townhomes, condos, and detached single-family homes are available in a variety of architectural styles that give the neighbourhood the kind of rich character usually reserved for older communities. Many of the homes are custom, and the templates provided by renowned architects come replete with options for interior design and personal touches.
